ALL or NOTHING.

The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. Exodus 14:14

If you checked the headlines from the past week, you'd see plenty of newsworthy stories. Breaking news hit Monday when our blessed Pope announced his resignation. Next, news reports covered a police shoot out in Big Bear. As the analysis of both those events continued, stories mentioned Ash Wednesday services and Valentine's Day happenings. Reports hit of a meteor in Russia and a double paraplegic and Olympic athlete was accused of murdering his girlfriend in South Africa. All over the world crazy things were happening and even as I reflected on my week I saw that I had kept busy and experienced many different and beautiful things. But, I couldn't pin point one message from the week that I was dying to share. There was not one moment that I thought to myself, "Wow, this is where God is moving."

I thought and thought about what I needed to say, and came up with nothing. And at first I was discouraged. I began to feel like maybe I had lost track of God. I began to wonder what I was missing or why I could not see any obvious evidence of Him working in my life. I mean it was only one week of time, but I still felt like asking God where He was. I was feeling like there was no major news story from God in my life at the moment. But as I thought, and wondered, and asked where God was and what I had to share, I discovered that maybe nothing was just it.

No, it's not exactly newsworthy, but it's real. God spoke to me in the nothing this week. It sounds absolutely crazy, and bizarre, and depressing. But a God who can speak to you even in the nothing is a pretty amazing God in my book.

So here's my breaking news for the week, I didn't necessarily see concrete or major examples of God "doing" things in my life personally over the past week. But the good news is, my faith shows me that He is moving even when I don't necessarily feel it. I think in the world we live in we feel the need to constantly go, go, go and I found it's no different with God. We want Him to constantly do, do, do. And when we don't see anything being done or any progress being made we get discouraged and disappointed. We start to feel like maybe God has forgotten about us or that He's given up on us. When in reality that's no where near the truth.

God's plan for our lives is beyond our comprehension. The intricate details, how we all intertwine, and every last second is planned out by Him. Every moment of the story can't be filled with action. There would be no time to develop the characters, to set up the plot, or to hear the author's voice. So in the quiet moments, when it seems like nothing is really happening, His story for you continues. He may not be moving in an obvious way, or He may not be taking the story in the way you think, but regardless, He continues to write, page after page. He's there in every word.

Our God has a plan for your life and for my life. I may not have a breaking news headline for where He moved this week but that's the point. He's moving even if I can't see it. And He will continue to move as I follow His call. The changes He makes may not always directly affect me but He continues to prepare the story so that at the turn of each new page more of His beauty and love await. God moves. He moves in everything, even in the nothing moments of our lives.

Don't be discouraged by weeks that seem less then newsworthy, there's no way we can see the big picture of every story that's currently unfolding. Embrace the quiet, enjoy the adventure, and know God is constantly working in your life. In the midst of your nothing, He might be doing everything.
