Impulse.

A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9

Impulse is, itself, defined as "something that changes the momentum of an object". It is "sudden, involuntary inclination prompting to action". Have you ever found yourself acting on something based on complete impulse?! Scary sometimes that we can just change our minds or our actions or our lives so quickly that we don't even completely understand what we are doing.

Surely, there are times where we make these changes of momentum based on a whim or a fleeting emotion and sometimes our impulses steer us wrong. And we make a mistake or regret a decision. However, we learn and we grow just the same if we take the opportunity to take in the experience.

But I also believe that sometimes God calls us to follow His plans even if that means jumping through loops or building on impulse. I firmly believe that God knows exactly where He wants us to be in each moment. And sometimes He gets us there on impulse.

We wake up everyday with an agenda. There's a list of chores we need to get done. A work place we need to get to, someone we need to catch up with, and an event that we have plans to attend. And we live our lives in such a way that we check off the lists almost automatically. We build a routine that we become comfortable with and we stick to it. But what if, in those moments, we become so comfortable that we stop living the life God is calling us to and we start living that life that is easy and the life that is what we know?

Sometimes God calls us to live bigger. Sometimes He wants more for us. Sometimes He needs us to step outside of our plans and live His plans for us! Surprising or not, these plans always end up bringing us to better moments and the chance to experience more love than we could ever imagine.

If today, God called you to drop everything and change your plans, would you? Could you? I think it's truly a challenge! But it's what giving control up to God is all about! Following His impulses. And trusting completely that sometimes the only way He can get you to exactly where you need to be is by pulling you out of your plans and pulling you into His beautiful agenda and His beautiful love.

Impulses change everything we know maybe for the next two hours or a maybe for a lifetime. But when you're brave enough to let go of what you know and follow a God that knows far better than you, the reward is this, you are given the power to live the will of Christ.
